Traveling with a cat (transportation rules)

There are situations when you need to go somewhere. For example, you have a trip to the country house, to visit relatives or you have a "burning ticket" to the Southern countries ... And the question arises: "What should I do with my beloved cat?" Especially if at that time there is no one to leave her with. Or maybe you don’t even want to go on a trip without your furry pet. Then plan to travel with the cat. The main thing in this matter is to prepare well for the trip and have everything you need with you.

Before you hit the road

It is advisable not to feed your pet for several hours of transportation. But it is important and necessary to drink. This will facilitate her well-being and eliminate the risk of motion sickness of the animal on the road. Of course, if you have been traveling for more than a day, then the cat needs to eat and drink, but only to a lesser extent. It is most convenient to transport the animal in a special container, but this is not important.

Do not forget to take along with your passport, a document certifying the animal, or rather a veterinary passport. It must have the dates of all vaccinations. In order to avoid catching an infection along the way, they should not be expired.

Now about the hygiene items for the cat. Take along a leash with a special device so that it is calmer to walk during stops, while in a car or traveling on a trip, and also to bring them to the tray. So you will ensure peace of mind, and will not worry that the animal in a new place, with fear, will run away.

Be sure to consult your veterinarian about what medications you need to bring with you to your animal’s first-aid kit. If you plan to relax at sea or in open space during hot weather, make sure that the animal does not overheat and does not receive a sunstroke. Find a secluded place, or create a shadow yourself from other improvised means.

To transport a cat on a plane

Before you go on a trip by air, you need to get information regarding the transportation of the animal directly to the airline in which you will order tickets. When purchasing them, inform the cashier that you are traveling with an animal. After checking the veterinary passport, she will make a note about the transportation of the pet, and will issue a ticket for him. Payment for pet and container is charged as per baggage tariff. There is also a special rule according to which you must notify the airline about the movement of the animal no later than 36 hours before the departure of air transport. If you miss the deadlines, the company has the right to refuse transportation. Guide dogs are exceptions, as they are an integral part of a visually impaired person, and transportation is not even paid for them.

No matter how much you love your pet, but if it, together with the cage, weighs more than five kg, it will be sent to the luggage compartment. So it is advisable to take care in advance that the transport container meets all the requirements and standards of the transport company. Moreover, you should be warned in advance about the size of the container, taking into account that the animal could quietly turn around there and stand in its height, in order to avoid swelling of the limbs along the way. And of course, the bottom of the container should be waterproof.

Traveling with a cat in a car

Cats endure the road hard. They often get sick, therefore:

  1. During the trip, try to distract the pet, take something so that the cat does not shake all the way from fear.
  2. Now in the veterinary departments, many animal hygiene products are sold. To make it convenient for you, buy your pet special napkin pads for toilets. On the way they are very easy to change, and moisture is absorbed into them, like in a diaper for children.
  3. The animal container is convenient for everyone: it lets in the right amount of air, it has a waterproof bottom, convenient for a toilet tissue, and it will not be thrown from side to side in the cabin when cornering on the road.
  4. If you brought napkins with you, then lay them in the tray, so the cat on the road will feel more confident.
  5. Inveterate travelers with animals and veterinarians suggest that before traveling, put on a noticeable collar on the animal and take its photo.

Nobody says that your animal should be lost, but it is better to provide for everything. May your trip be calm and easy

Traveling with a cat on a train

Since the cat belongs to small pets (up to 20 kg), its travel on the train is allowed directly with the owner in all cars. In this case, the animal must be placed in a container or a special box and placed on the owner’s hands, in place of hand luggage or under the passenger seat.

For your beloved pet, you need to pay at the railway ticket office as if for luggage and receive a receipt, on the back of which it will be written that the "luggage" is in the hands of the passenger.
